The Perry Model 51 was the first non-adhesive ileostomy pouching system. The non-adhesive faceplate was positioned over the stoma and secured by two belts: one at the upper and the other at the lower aspect of the faceplate. A long rubber sheath was cut to the desired length of the stoma and secured to the faceplate. In the presence of peristomal irritation a cotton gauze pad soaked in an astringent or covered in petroleum or aluminum paste was applied to the skin. The pad was held in place by the faceplate and the two-belt system. |
