These plastic discs were used to landmark the most appropriate location on the abdomen for stoma construction and visibility for self-managed stoma care. The disc mimicked the placement of the ostomy pouching system given the size of the abdomen and principles of stoma marking. Today, nurses specialized in wound, ostomy and continence care (NSWOC) use an ostomy skin barrier to site the stoma location. |
