The VPI system was unique in design and an alternative to the traditional vertical pouch containment structure. Designed to lie horizontally across the abdomen, this non-adhesive pouch had three different-sized silicone rings to fit around the base of the stoma according to stoma size. The security of the silicone ring was designed to prevent fecal leakage. A belt secured the pouch. The horizontal lie position was thought to add comfort by displacing the weight of the pouch contents across the abdomen rather than vertically over the upper leg. |
